The illustrious Cannes Film Festival is upon us once again, with this year’s affair commemorating the 76th edition of this iconic star-studded event. Beyond celebrating the most outstanding offerings of international cinema, the film-focussed spectacle also brings with it much-anticipated glitz and glamour as A-listers flock to France and don their finest ware and smart suiting.
Cannes Film Festival has firmly cemented its place in the same ranks as the Met Gala and the Oscars, so we got style treats aplenty on the famed red carpet. It was mother-daughter duo Catherine Zeta-Jones and Carys Zeta Douglas, 20, who drew the most gasps in their coordinating Elie Saab sequin numbers. Karlie Kloss looked like a Grecian goddess as she walked the red carpet for the premiere of “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny” at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival, cradling her pregnant belly as she posed at the star-studded event. The 30-year-old catwalk star dazzled in a gold one-shouldered Dior dress with matching braided trim at the empire waist.
Brie Larson
Brie Larson led the charge on the opening day and embraced an artistic Chanel ensemble on Tuesday in Cannes, France, at the screening of “Jeanne du Barry” at Cannes Film Festival. The actress looked to the brand’s 2024 resort collection, wearing a slightly sheer gold and white chequered jumpsuit with a gold and silver beaded starburst-pattern bodice. Larson (who is making her Cannes debut) is one of eight members of this year’s jury—a body consisting of actors, directors, and screenwriters who will award one of the nominated films the prestigious Palme d’Or prize on the last day of the event.
Viola Davis
Viola Davis wore a white gown underneath a dramatic feathered coat, both by Valentino couture. Davis’ dress featured a crystallised floral appliqué at the shoulder, while her outerwear included sparkling strands of silver tinsel.
Alessandra Ambrosio
The former Victoria’s Secret Angel wore a sheer burgundy Elie Saab hooded gown that featured a sequin-embellished linear pattern that crossed over along the waistline and continued to the end of the train. The vintage gown is from the designer’s Fall 2005 Haute Couture gown. Ambrosio accessorised with a gold ring, a pair of sparkling dangle earrings, and a necklace that featured red and smokey grey gemstones. She kept her dark brown hair in a sleek bun away from the face to keep the focus on her glamorous makeup that featured a smokey eye and a dark nude lip.
Aishwarya Rai
The Indian actress, who has been one of the reigning red carpet queens of the event for the last two decades, arrived at the film screening of Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny on May 18 in an ensemble that glittered more than anything we have seen in recent times. The Bollywood star was a futuristic vision in her silver hooded gown, a custom creation by Azerbaijan-based fashion label Sophie Couture. The dramatic outfit, seemingly out of a sci-fi movie, was topped with an oversized hood that framed Rai’s face and wrapped around her shoulders. The dress featured a mermaid skirt that flared out onto the red carpet; the whole look was tied together with a black bow.
Elle Fanning
‘The Great’ actress kicked off the 2023 Cannes Film Festival on the Jeanne du Barry premiere red carpet wearing a custom pale pink Alexander McQueen orchid dress with Paris net and a silver bugle beaded strapless bodice with crystal embroidery.
Naomi Campbell
Campbell arrived wearing a silver sequin Celine gown with a plunging neckline and gathered fabric detailing at her waist. Her ’70s-style gown, which mimicked a disco ball, was completed with dazzling Chopard bracelets, earrings and Pepita 120 heels by Alexandre Birman.
Rosé
Blackpink’s Rosé made her first appearance at the Cannes Film Festival. She attended the premiere of Hirokazu Kore-eda’s new drama “Monster.” Rosé wore a black silk gown by Saint Laurent. The frock featured a necktie, ruffles along the bodice and a small mesh panel underneath the décolletage. Rosé coordinated it with high-heeled sandals and a pair of diamond and sapphire earrings.
