Sheer Is The New Black

Sheer is everywhere we go and we are not complaining

Zendaya

If you spend even an ounce of your time in the realm of fashion or celebrity, then you have no doubt heard of the naked dress. From the red carpet to the runway, body-baring gowns have been omnipresent as of late, beloved for both their sartorial appeal and statement-making power.

While the naked dress remains an essential (and timeless) garment in the A-List wardrobe, it seems a new trend is on the rise — one which threatens to dethrone its status as the go-to daring dress. Enter: The sheer gown.

As seen on stars such as Julia Fox and Florence Pugh, the sheer dress may be a slightly less eye-popping take on the nude gown trend — but it’s equally stunning. Ahead, we round up the celebrities who have been nailing the look lately, as inspiration for your next night out.

DUA LIPA

Dua Lipa

The singer was on her way to the wedding of designer Simon Porte Jacquemus and Marco Maestri. For the special day, Dua chose a translucent white dress adorned in what was meant to look like strings of white flowers. The dress was made of white panelling that billowed out at the bottom and featured high side slits. Beneath the sheer dress, Dua wore a white bandeau top and white underwear. In keeping with her white theme, Dua coordinated her oversized floral earrings and strappy sandals. She carried a black handbag and added a few finger rings.

HAILEY BIEBER

Hailey Bieber

Hailey Bieber wore a sheer dress by Saint Laurent in Los Angeles, California for the launch of Tiffany & Co.’s Lock Collection. Bieber coordinated with a black bra, strappy sandals and Tiffany & Co. jewellery. Hailey was sure to accessorise with a stack of glitzy bracelets and a pair of drop earrings along with a gold cuff necklace that featured a jade-green stone.

ZOE KRAVITZ

Zoe Kravitz

Zoe Kravitz LOVES a sheer dress, and she has certainly upped the ante on herself. It is the more expensively built version of what Megan Fox wore to the VMAs. She came ready to have a moment in bejewelled mesh Yves Saint Laurent on the Met Gala red carpet in 2021.

FLORENCE PUGH

Florence Pugh

Florence Pugh was a sight to behold on Thursday night as she joined Hollywood’s latest and greatest at the grand re-opening of the Tiffany & Co. flagship store in NYC. The Don’t Worry Darling star, 27, delivered goddess glamour while walking the red carpet in a sheer mint green gown with a flowing cape that hung off her shoulders. It teased her tanned and toned legs while the strapless bodice highlighted her bust.

KENDALL JENNER

Kendall Jenner

Supermodel Kendall Jenner was dressed by Givenchy for the 2021  Met Gala, arriving in a sheer gown adorned in delicate crystals with a dramatic train. The model’s dress featured a striking jewelled neckpiece and intricate shoulder pads.

ZENDAYA

Zendaya

Zendaya, the official poster girl for Valentino’s Pink PP collection, hogged all the limelight as she took her front-row seat wearing a sheer crystallised bodysuit underneath a fancy shorts suit embellished with the Valentino logo. Frosted with a pair of chandelier earrings, with a bold side parting for added sass, Hollywood’s fashion-icon set the tone for the collection during the Paris Fashion Week in 2022.
