From Selena to Rihanna, here’s the list of celebrities who made a statement with their fashion choices.
This week has been a busy week for us fashion buffs because of the revelation of these personal style choices made by our favourite celebrities. Though all the styles we are talking about are general fashion choices made by the biggies of the industry, except for Rihanna who made a statement with hers’, it is still important enough to take a moment to admire the creativity that lies in them.
Here’s the three choices that made the cut.
SELENA GOMEZ
The singer and Rare Beauty founder was spotted in Paris dressing like a true French girl. Or rather, an American’s idea of French girl chic. You could also say this ensemble is totally in line with the stealth-wealth vibe that took over spring. But considering Gomez wore it in Paris, the French inspiration is undeniable.
There’s an effortless, and discreet, sensibility to how Parisians dress. Stylish locals in the City of Light never look like they’re trying too hard—like they simply woke up looking totally polished. Gomez nailed this approach when she slipped into a minimal, all-black look including a tee and dress pants. Yet her choice knitwear, artfully slung over her shoulders, gave the casual look a chic, refined feel, as did her accessories: A Chanel clutch, Prada shades, and flip-flop heels.
RIHANNA
The heavily pregnant singer posted a picture of herself wearing an oversized Savage X Fenty tee printed with the phrase “Use a Condom”. “This shirt is old…” she quipped of her tongue-in-cheek choice of top, which she wore as a minidress with slouchy white boots and sunglasses. Given that Rihanna has clearly not been following her own style directive, her shirt was instantly tipped into ironic slogan tee territory—and it’s an excellent example of the genre. It certainly met with the approval of her millions of fans and followers. Longtime collaborator Adam Selman, who was appointed the executive design director of Savage X Fenty Sport last year, wrote: “Do as she say, not as she do…”.
KENDALL JENNER
Though the 27-year-old supermodel has been busy sharing her cheeky bikini photos to Instagram, that doesn’t mean she’s forgotten how to dress up and glam out — the sexy way. In new photos shared Wednesday, the Kardashians star is seen in one of her most daring looks to date: a little black David Koma dress. The David Koma dress, pulled from the British designer’s fall 2023 collection, features illusion mesh on its upper-half and playful red flowers smack-dab in a prime (and oft-controversial) anatomical position. While the pasties were certainly eye-catching, the most unexpected part of the outfit was the long modish scarf around Jenner’s neck. And víola! The peak 2023 “naked dressing” trend meets Audrey Hepburn circa 1961.
