Copenhagen Fashion Week ’23 Focus on Sustainability

The most-anticipated fashion week included extraordinary exhibitions.

Holzweiler. – Spring Summer 2023

Copenhagen Fashion Week is finally back! Each season, this most-anticipated fashion event welcomes press, buyers and influencers to four days of shows, presentations and events. Sustainability was the biggest aim to which each designer focused their creations. The idea was to make substantial changes to the way the event is usually run, inspire and encourage the industry to take steps to become more sustainable. A Roege Hove, Jade Cropper, Holzweiler, among other brands, have made an effort to focus on sustainability when creating their designs.

This spring/summer 2023 season, CPHNFW featured a host of Scandinavian brands, both established and emerging, who presented their latest designs on the international stage.

Latimmier – Spring Summer 2023

Led by Finnish designer Ervin Latimer, Latimmier joined the CPHFW calendar under its NEWTALENT program that supports emerging designers. Guests entered a CrossFit gym, where members were lifting weights just before the show. The runway show, titled “Youthful Expectations,” featured a variety of unisex pieces that stood out, including suits and shirts with shoulder slits, as well as accessories such as ties with hardware detailing. The designer played with fabrics, using shiny textures in matching jacket and trouser sets, while a pair of leather pants sported lace-up sides.

Rabens Salomer – Sprng Summer 2023

Creative director Birgitte Raben spends her time between Bali, where the company has a dye house, and Copenhagen. The label pairs rainbow colours on wardrobe classics with a Scandi minimalist edge. Linen tailoring has a slouchy yet sexy silhouette, while a staple trench coat or blazer is layered over floaty vibrant dresses. Rabens Saloner celebrates light and easy dressing with the suggestion of a happy accident, typical these happy accidents can create a whole collection “Something will happen in the process, and it will say something to us”.

Roege Hove – Spring Summer 2023

Designer Amalie Røge Hove presented her latest Spring-Summer 2023 collection at CPHFW. The A. Roege Hove designer had an urge to dive back into old procedures and explore the systematic creation of material as the conceptual knitwear label took its modernist designs into ancient surroundings for Copenhagen Fashion Week.  “After a few seasons of moving forward, it felt natural to take a step back and look at my old work and procedures,” she explained. “I wanted to allow myself to create with no purpose and take the time to immerse myself in the details and the systematics of knitting, and by this investigate the possibilities and extremes even further.”

Baum Und Pferdgarten – Spring Summer 2023

Held in the streets of Copenhagen, Baum Und Pferdgarten’s Spring-Summer 2023 collection clearly reflected the vibrancy of the Danish capital. The brand presented pieces in bright blues and purples which were paired with clashing highlighter pinks and yellows. The designer also played with prints and textures on chain-patterned floaty dresses, leopard-print coats and full lace looks.

Jade Cropper – Spring Summer 2023

Designer Jade Cropper was undeniably one of the most talked about throughout the week. The designer presented his collection during Copenhagen Fashion Week and hit the week, joining forced with Circulose to craft each look and furthering the sustainability focused mission of CPHFW. The brand also transformed a shopping mall parking a lot into a runway covered in dust, on which models sported cut-out knit separates, denim dresses and more.
